SPIDERS

Spiders are arachnids with eight legs and chelicerae with fangs to inject venom. Often found in dark corners and hidden crevices, their venomous bites and unsettling webs can make them a frightening presence in any environment. There are several species of spiders found in North Texas.

Brown Recluse Spider

The Black Widow Spider is a notorious and fearsome arachnid known for its glossy black body and distinctive red hourglass marking on the underside of its abdomen. Commonly found in the DFW area, these spiders prefer dark, secluded spaces like basements, crawl spaces, and garden sheds. Despite their shy nature, black widows pose a serious threat due to their venomous bite, which can cause severe pain and discomfort. Their webs are irregular and messy, often found near clutter or debris.

The Brown Recluse spider is a stealthy and potentially dangerous arachnid commonly found in the DFW area. Recognizable by its brown, violin-shaped marking on its back, this spider prefers undisturbed, dark environments such as basements, attics, and behind furniture. Its bite can lead to severe skin lesions and systemic symptoms, making it a significant concern for homeowners. Brown Recluse spiders are reclusive by nature, hiding in cluttered areas and emerging only when disturbed.

Orb-Weaving Spider

Wolf spiders are commonly found in the DFW area. These spiders are known for their large size, hairy bodies, and quick hunting behavior. Unlike many spiders, wolf spiders do not spin webs to catch prey; instead, they actively hunt down insects and other small creatures. They are typically found in outdoor areas such as gardens, wood piles, and basements.
